His second enlistment was on February 27, 1876, at Shreveport, Louisiana by Lt. Donald McIntosh. The Descriptive List and Records File has Special Order Number 135, Depot General Recruiting Service, August 1, 1867, in which the name of Private Marcus Weis, Company G, 7th Cavalry appears on a list of deserters being returned to their units. He had grey eyes, brown hair, a fair complexion, and was 5’8” in height.  He died as a result of a fractured skull after a cave-in while constructing a guardhouse and stable at Fort Meade.
